Healing from Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, & Grief
About Jennifer
I happily reside in Langford, B.C., with my wonderful husband, two amazing children, and our cherished pup, Bailey. In my free time, I enjoy downhill skiing, exploring new places, photography, enjoying time on my boat, and connecting with loved ones. For me, there’s nothing quite like the serene peace and inner balance I find while wandering through the forest, taking in the view from a mountaintop, or simply walking along the shoreline.
My passion for counselling, rooted in a lifelong fascination with psychology and shaped by personal challenges and extensive training, has evolved into a deeply fulfilling career. Central to all aspects of my life is a commitment to cultivating strong, trusting connections and creating a nurturing environment for vulnerability, learning, and development. I actively invest in my personal and professional growth, evident in my commitment to attending personal counselling sessions, prioritizing self-care, and participating in competency-based clinical supervision, consultations, and professional development.
What I’ve learned is that nothing teaches you more than living through an experience firsthand. In 2013, while vacationing with my family in Italy, I nearly lost my life in a river rafting accident. That moment changed everything. The trauma led me through a dark and difficult journey, but ultimately, my path of recovery further inspired my career in counselling. Having personally experienced post-traumatic symptoms, I understand the overwhelming weight of living through events that are too much to bear. This experience further ignited my passion and commitment to helping others overcome life’s challenges and rediscover their path to mental wellness.
My formal journey into mental health began with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Linguistics. Over time, I gained valuable experience through various professional and volunteer roles, including co-founding a non-profit organization dedicated to post-traumatic stress. These opportunities deepened my passion for supporting others and expanding my knowledge of mental health. After completing my training at Clearmind International Institute in 2016, I launched my private practice as a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, specializing in trauma resolution, anxiety, and depression. Now, with eight years of experience and multiple certifications, I am advancing my expertise through Yorkville University’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I’m excited to complete my practicum at Heartwood Counselling, where I’ll be offering a limited number of reduced-rate online sessions for new clients from September 2024 to April 2025.
